The stereotype is that the Scandinavians are a lot more liberal about sex. Simple as that.

The rumour about Swedish girls (and guys?) being beautiful might be true though. I used to think it was bull****, but after visiting a few countries I say it's pretty accurate.
Or maybe we just have different ideals and values.

Well-
-when someone says "Sweden" or "Swedish"-
Here's what goes through my American mind....

"Abba,blonde Super model's like tiger woods' wife, and cold weather"
Oh yeah and those awesome "Swedish meatballs"
we have at weddings...

- I can't name one person I know that infers Sweden as the porn capital- SO- I don't know really how that got started! - our sitcom's are cheap, over- rated, and genrally do not reflect the thought patterns of american soceity- So I hope that somewhat answer's your question...

As to the American obession with Brit's,Scot', and The blessed Irish....... and the romantic comedy out put- American women find british men sexy- It's been that way forever- and frankly I don't hear Hugh Grant or Colin Firth complaining!
A romantic comedy will sale in the US all day long

I'm Puerto Rican but I currently live in USA and lived in Sweden for a couple of years (and married a Swede). They are indeed VERY reserved but also quite open and liberated sexually. IMHO, the disparity stems from public shyness around those they do not know well, as opposed to openess with those they do know well.

They can drink like fish and love sex. It's a beautiful country. I loved it except for the LOOOOOONG winters
